I remember when he just showed up one night at RUF. He told me he was from a PCA church in Virginia and thought he should finally show up to RUF - he was right. Ian's a faithful man. He is quiet but very loving. He will be there if you ask him to be and he will help. I'm thankful for him, and glad he was a part of RUF. 1. How did you first get involved with RUF? I grew up in the PCA, so I knew about the existence of RUF, and around the middle of my junior year, I just decided one week that I would go. I was warmly welcomed by numerous people, and became a regular attendee for the rest of my time at OU. 2. What was/is your favorite part about RUF? I really enjoyed all of it...the preaching of the Word, praising God with other students, and the fellowship. But probably my favorite part would be the sermons. I really felt that the Word of God was ministered to me personally in a way that I had never experienced before, despite growing up in a church with wonderful preaching. 3. How would you describe your RUF to people interested in coming? RUF at OU is a place where the Word of God is preached in a meaningful way, and it is a place where real and deep fellowship and friendship can be found. 4. What traditions did you have at RUF that meant the most to you? I thoroughly enjoyed each aspect of RUF that I was able to participate in, and although I wasn't able to participate in some activities (Relish, small group Bible studies most of the time) I would still encourage students to join in those activities as well. Favorite hymns: In Christ Alone, For All the Saints, Abide With Me (I loved many many others, but those are probably my top three) 5. How did God use RUF in your life? I really felt that God helped me to grow greatly in my faith during my time at RUF, in a way that I had not experienced before. The Gospel was preached in a real and personal way, and I have endeavered to apply it to my life with the help of God's grace. 6. Did RUF help you in your understanding and love for the church and for community? How so? RUF gave me a greater vision for how I should be active in a church and within the community of believers. This is an area I have struggled with, but I pray that by the grace of God I will find a true home church where I can learn and apply my spiritual gifts. 7. What are you doing now? Where are you in church? Right now I am living at home with my parents, continuing to look for a long-term job. Church has been difficult for me this summer. I have been attending the church I grew up in, but it doesn't feel the same as it has in the past, especially with regard to the preaching. I am looking forward to eventually getting out on my own and finding a true home church. 8. What is the gospel and how is it operating in your life right now? I have spent most of the summer reading through the book of Ephesians, which has been both very convicting and very encouraging. God reminds me constantly that I am a sinner, but also that I have been saved by grace. Name: (optional)
