She was very particular that her name was LAWrie and not pronounced any other way. And she brought her blasted guitar, which we carried all over creation since we basically missed every possible flight. I hated that guitar. But I loved Laurie. That was a great trip, and Laurie got involved with RUF and was such a delight. I can remember walking around campus discussing whether or not she should marry Jeff. And then of course - I'll mention it - I forgot to say "You may now kiss the bride" at their wedding. I will never forget again! 1. How did you first get involved with RUF? I grew up in the PCA, and my home church helped get RUF at Tulsa University set up- so I had a taste of RUF before college. I decided freshmen year that I needed to find a college ministry 'on my own terms' and tried out basically every campus ministry around. It didn't take long to see that the teaching at RUF is the best around. 2. What was/is your favorite part about RUF? Meeting my husband Jeff, and some of the dearest girl friends I've ever had. I guess this means that I loved the community of RUF. Every single RUF relationship I made is deep, transparent, messy, and wonderful. Everyone at OURUF wants to know you, and for you to know them. 3. How would you describe your RUF to people interested in coming? RUF will be more real, personal, and raw that most other ministries on campus. Sometimes that's hard, but people need it. You'll have more laughs and tears than you can count. 4. What traditions did you have at RUF that meant the most to you? As so many others have said, the music. I grew up around a lot of bad christian pop music, and RUF really showed me that beautiful and meaningful music can go hand in hand. I also loved Relish (the leadership team) - it help put actions in the community behind what I believed. - Do you have an appropriate funny moment that you can share? Oh, so so many. The one that comes to mind first is my first Not-A-Date with the famous Russ Edwards. My suite mate at the time was heavily involved in another ministry, and her surprise when Matt picked me up was classic. I had to explain the purpose of Not-A-Date three times, and I'm sure she still thinks its scandalous. * Not a Date is something we do every semester. It is a guy and a girl randomly paired up by me and then going out and talking and hanging out. We usually all end up together doing something at the end. But it's not a date. 5. How did God use RUF in your life? I cannot sum up the impact RUF has had on me. I really think I was given the instruments of the Faith growing up, but RUF taught me how to use and believe in them. I would not be in the church today without RUF. I went from knowing about reformed theology to actually living it. 6. What did RUF teach you about Jesus and the church? Doug's mantra still sticks with me- You don't understand the Gospel enough. I've seen how true this is almost every day. It's so much about forgiveness and repentance, and the church community is a fantastic way to practice. 7. What are you doing now? Where are you in church? After a two year hiatus in Houston, my husband and I are back in downtown OKC. I'm at the Health Science Center getting my master's in Physician's Associate Studies.
