The Interviews - Becky Robertson
11/10/09
Becky Robertson is an amazing woman. I can't exactly remember when we first met, but I know she was in Bible study with Courtney, Annie, Laurie and Colleen, and they are still all fast friends. I remember trying to get her nickname to be Bacon or was it Muffin? I remember some great times at Summer Conference, which Becky loved. She's another one of our RUF photographers and has a site >a href ="www.rebeccalorrine.com">here where you can see her stunning work. She loves God, loves the church, loves people and people love her.

1. How did you first get involved with RUF?
Found out about it through Believer's Chapel - the church I grew up at, in Dallas. In 2002 RUF was in year 2 so it was pretty small and little harder to find. I diligently asked ever OTHER Christian organization about RUF, got some funny looks but was determined to find RUF:)

2. What was/is your favorite part about RUF?
Theology behind the teaching and how that affects every lesson, and the impact of the lyrics to our music.

3. How would you describe your RUF to people interested in coming?
Very real and genuine. For those interested in strong fellowship and a deeper understanding that IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU! Do you want to live a man-centered life, or God-centered life?

4. What traditions did you have at RUF that meant the most to you?
Not a date! Also, being invited to Relish felt like a right of passage into the RUF roadies:)

- Do you have an appropriate funny moment that you can share?
So Jon Guliano and I were in the final running for Not a Date champions. We had to create a challenge and then challenge each other...our challange... locating the ULTIMATE MULLET. Now, much love to my fellow Okies, but you have to admit that's in not to difficult to spot the Ultimate Mullet in Norman. We took my camera and headed to Ace Hardware, other shady hardware places, but found the ULTIMATE MULLET at Walmart, duh! We took our pictures, printed them out, and put them in a book. We had so much fun with it:) I also photoshopped my face and Jon's face on a mullet and put it as the cover! I still share that story!

5. How did God use RUF in your life?
I had a skewed view of family and friendships. I feel like I learned how to be a friend in RUF. I've never felt so loved and as a young christian woman going through so much change that was key to keeping me from sin. I had the head knowledge of scripture, but that was the danger, I thought since I had the head knowledge I was set, but walking with the Lord is much deeper than head knowledge. I learned about genuine relationships and that loving people sometimes is inconvenient, but we need it, and they need it.

6. What did RUF teach you about Jesus and the church?
Community with those that are unlike you. As a freshman at OU I will admit that I labeled a handful of others. But those "others" would end up being some of my closest friends! And still are!! As God opened my eyes He showed me that I need people that are unlike me and they need me. I'm sure I got labeled, and I pray that I broke their mold too!

7. What are you doing now? Where are you in church?
I'm 25, NOT MARRIED!!! Be encouraged those of you who aren't:) I live in Dallas and have my own business,www.rebeccalorrine.com, also just started www.FotoFavor.com as a side project. I go to Park Cities Pres. and am super busy with things that I want to be busy with...*note WANT to be busy with* I also mentor a sweet 5th grader through a ministry called Mercy Street. I do work quite a bit, but surround myself with other believers when I'm not working. That's the BIGGEST comfort and stronghold for me. Surround yourself with those you respect and trust...they're out there. You have to pray for them and seek them out.

8. What is the gospel?
That's a tough one! Pre college I would have said knowing the Bible. But, my argument now is you can know the Bible and be the biggest bump on a log! So gospel now to me the result of scripture in your life! How it's changed you and drives you. One verse that has influenced this thought is ROM 12:12 Be Joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and devoted to pray

In fact, the first time I noticed this verse was when I was babysitting for Courtney and Wade. Court had written in out in there kitchen and when I read it I thought - THAT's IT! It doesn't say, be joyful in stress, anxious in affliction, and devoted to self- haha! it's all about Jesus!
