1. How did you first get involved with RUF?
I got was first invited to a RUF meeting my senior year by a couple of friends while I was questioning my beliefs and what my purpose in life was.
2. What was/is your favorite part about RUF?
My favorite part was the family atmosphere that was there. From the weekly meetings to the study groups and fun get togethers, I was welcomed from the first day I attended.
3. How would you describe your RUF to people interested in coming?
It is a great way to learn about God while being around people who can hold you accountable during your college years. RUF helps you figure out what God has planned for you, even if you don't realize it at first.
4. What traditions did you have at RUF that meant the most to you?
The Not-a-date was a great way to get to know other people from the group in a way that you might not have been able to otherwise. It removed all of the social pressures that are placed on you when a man and a women go out together in public and enabled us to build a friendship.
- Do you have an appropriate funny moment that you can share?
I can't remember any specific moment, but Della was usually the comical entertainment at our events.
- Do you have a favorite RUF hymn? What is it and why is it your favorite?
I'm not sure if it's considered a hymm, but the song that we sang that I really enjoyed was Jars of Clay's "On Jordan's Stormy Banks I Stand."
5. How did God use RUF in your life?
God used RUF to bring me to Christ. Before I attended RUF I was lost and confused. I was not a believer growing up and it took a good friend of mine to break down all of the things that I thought I had believed in. She then brought me to RUF where Doug's sermons showed me how much God loved me and it was at the RUF Summer Conference where I accepted Christ. I attended my first bible study there and learned how to read the bible and how to pray.
6. Did RUF help you in your understanding and love for the church and for community? How so?
Before going to RUF I couldn't stand being in a church. It reminded me of things I wasn't fond of growing up and going to church. But going to RUF I was able to see that church is not just a building with rules, it was a place to gather together and worship God.
7. What are you doing now? Where are you in church?
Right now I am attending a church in Union Bridge, Md where I, with my wife, am leading the young adult bible study group at the church. I just started my own business and am looking into attending seminary school next fall somewhere to pursue my masters in theology or divinity.
8. What is the gospel and how is it operating in your life right now?
I see the gospel as the living and breathing word of God. It is what I am using to guide my life right now as I try to figure out what God wants me to do.
